Founded in 1995,
Paraffin Arts Project, Inc. sponsors projects which promote literature,
film and performance in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their motto,
"an obscure vehicle for instruments of light," pretty much sums
up their organizational philosophy: while Paraffin remains obscure,
they hope that their programs will cast some light on the world around them.
9x9, a collective of San Francisco artists, writers, visual artists and performers,
is one of those programs. 9x9 sporadically publishes
6,500 Magazine, a
journal of new poetry, fiction, and wry illustration.
